The Father Dyer Methodist Church: This church was built by the famous minister, Father Dyer, who in the late 1880’s delivered the mail by skiing across the Continental Divide. But when he arrived he was appalled at the behavior of the miners who lived in Breckenridge, so he decided to build a church, which today remains as an historic monument to the mining days of Breckenridge.

The Barney Ford House and Museum: Founded by an escaped slave who made the trek to Breckenridge in search of gold, the building that once held Ford’s Restaurant and Chop House still stands today as a monument to this prominent black entrepreneur.

During the holidays, Breckenridge becomes a winter wonderland, complete with sleigh rides, snow mobiles and dogsledding. The annual Ullr Festival pays homage to the “God of Winter” and the area attracts visitors from around the world to view the ice sculptures in Riverwalk Park.

Other than exploring history and enjoying some holiday fun, one of the best ways to see Breckenridge is to take a relaxing stroll along Maine Street. Here, you can explore art galleries and unique shops, enjoy a great meal at one of Breckenridge’s excellent restaurants, and see a play at the Backstage Theatre.
